Rate and FPS ceilings

The DPS is a minor issue compared to the acceleration of jetpacks. I want to avoid getting into personal debates on what people's preferences are because i'm sure everybody would opt for higher DPS, faster acceleration and smoother movement because we're not dumb. The problem, as I said in the first place, is the quality of the games. I agree with jiriki that the increased rate of fire is a positive change and that jetpacks' speed is not. This is not only a major buff for marines but a major limitation of the marine tech, variability of each game and level of fun for the alien team.

Olaf: You yourself have given up in games where the opposition has jetpacks but no obvious advantage. Experience has told you that they will force a slow, gradual and boring win. It's THIS that we have to address, not how the game performs on individual computers.

oh i love the technical(complex^^) stuff

even with 60hz tft i can spot the difference between 125 and 200fps!

because its double buffering. your display shows the Main-buffer and ns draws the next frame in the back-buffer after the back-buffer frame is done. ns is switching the buffers. this buffer flip is not waiting for your display so we see more then one frame but we have Tearing.

Multi, But as far as I understand Vsync was exactly developed to fix this. And that's why I find 120 wih Vsync more smooth than 200 Hz.

WikipediaVertical synchronization (v-sync, v-synch, vbl-sync, vbl-synch) refers generally to the synchronization of frame changes with the vertical blanking interval. Since CRTs were nearly the only common video display technology prior to the widespread adoption of LCDs, the frame buffers in computer graphics hardware are designed to match the CRT characteristic of drawing images from the top down a line at a time by replacing the data of the previous frame in the buffer with that of the next frame in a similar fashion. If the frame buffer is updated with a new image while the image is being transmitted to the display, the frame buffer gives it the current mishmash of both frames, producing a page tearing artifact partway down the image.

Vertical synchronization eliminates this by timing frame buffer fills to coincide with the vertical blanking interval, thus ensuring that only whole frames are seen on-screen.


What I was refering with complexity was that NS might different kind of response times to different events with different FPS'es and because of the same kind "late frame" issue that is causing the DPS to vary. Or possibly floating point operations. Anyway the ultimatum is that NS can indeed "feel" more responsive at different FPS for reasons other than monitor Hz.

aA, you ask me to try 200fps without knowing that I was playing with 200fps all the time I was in Korea. I'm tired of trying to communicate with your logic, seriously.

Accel is such an important part of game play for NS; if anyone disputes this I will just ignore them because there is really no point in questioning that fact.

200fps offers a massive acceleration bonus to jps along with a number of other bonuses for people which to me, just puts icing on the cake of imbalance.

and in the end we can say vsync adds some inputlag
and more fps makes the Tearing less noticeable

What do you propose to judge it on fraggie? There's nothing else BUT gathers! And it's been seasons since we had a close battle of top teams...


Also please answer my questions, or I'll assume that you have no answer, that I have won the debate and that therefore it would be logical to implement the 125fps cap.

There are plenty of answers posted, not only by me. Read multivac's post very carefully.

In the same gathers, one fade can win the game on his own, does that really make the game unbalanced ? because i know for a fact that we are referring to the few HIGHskilled jetpack players, since the rest just simply sucks with it.

I still do agree though, if there is another way to fix the jetpack acceleration, i am all up for it, but fixing it by simply limiting the fps is RIDICULOUS.

125fps is more than playable and a good 90% of the community either play with 125fps or less anyway. I really don't see the problem.

a crt at 100fps makes way more difference than an lcd at 200fps...

team failed at such simple task as biting res so they've deserved to be destroyed(aliens), yes it was boring casue marines could've finnish this of just right after they've got advantage and not wait 30 more minuts to do so, that was boring cause i've already predicted the process, gathers are like 1 players carries whole team and fucks the whole game, when there is more then 1 in a team it turns into a massacre of newbies, sorry to state the obvious if it wasnt so clear for you.
boring thing is that in every single gather i'm playing alone and have to do everything for my shitty team it's either i carry or we loose but i cannot kill marines and bite res at same time.
you can call me mega ego w/e guy but i'm tired talking with certain ppl not saying there is a diffrence between me and them since they think they are really awesome and will stick to that point.
generally i've gave up cause i knew i have a shit that won't be able to make a comeback. ns as it states is natural selection youre shit team you ended up as being at bottom and brutaly destroyed by those higher ones in chain.

i dont give a flying fuck about you sorry, it doesnt suit me and it's not playable for me. if you want to play 125 the you're free to do but fuck off from my 200 cause i ejnoy playing on it and i've said my reasons why and wont bother repeating again. dont force on me your stupid ideas cause i dont want to play on this crap 125 nor 100.

I think it's pretty obvious when you have one side argueing for 200 fps while they pretend it's no big deal and the other side being against it saying that it gives advantages.

If 200 fps isn't that big of a deal, you shouldn't have a problem with a 125 fps cap.
