i don't see how tactical scrutiny and forcing people to choose a 'more aggressive' play style is a solution to this, especially when it's being said by the guy i've seen die as the first fade more than anyone else... yes that's right.. aA dies as first fade even more than Fana...
i think lump if your words are based on your knowledge and experience i'm sure you're right, if you were certainly a good fade once then you should be master when it comes to that certain role, on other side i know it's very easy to stand somewhere in the back and comment others' doings and dont see what you're doing yourself and i know it's also a lot harder to be a good example of yourself for others, if you thnk you're a good example for others then i'm sure others think that way about you as well ; )
200 fps is smooth and mouse movement doesnt feel like you're on xbox pad when it feels "robotic" i personaly cant adapt to do this and dont even want to cause it only happens in ns,generaly i dont have full control of the mouse movement, 125 is the same as 100 only 200 provides what i rly want, that's my opinion based on my experience.
huh? i'm commenting on the credentials of your suggestion to everyone else to be 'more aggressive', not making suggestions myself. i don't get your point... me being a good example? thanks.. i'm sure many disagree but whatever?
lol, 200fps is the only smooth movement? no, it's the only imba lmg rof and jp accel.
if you can't adapt to 125fps when so many people play well on less than 100fps... you have issues.
i havent seen so far one valid counter argument from you to anything that i've wrote so far, instead you keep on going/chargin on personal matters when you're a mature person and you still act like some 5 years old kid...
also dont rate eveyrone by the same ratings
i suggest you to read my posts again since i dont rly think you've understood it...
and yes i know how it is to play on less than 100 fps well, thank you for consideration ; p
and please please stop going so personal about eveyrthing, take some distance.
oh and not eveyone can reach 200 fps that's why the stick with 125, yes i know few ppl that cant ; p
ps. if you want to be treated seriously really stop going on personal matters cause if you'll do in next post like that i will just not anwsear it since there is no point disscusing anymore with you...
I see no reason at all to limit the fps to 125, except for maybe the jetpack imbalance, the developers said that the way the jetpack operates it kinda bugs out at 200fps.
Since the developers said the intended RoF is at 200FPS, i would suggest only some kind of jetpack fix.
I mean back in the day we weren't limiting the fps to 60 were we ?
Some people couldn't get 100fps, and therefore really sucked at bunnyhopping, i really dont care, upgrade your pc, or play with 60 fps.
The same thing applies now, except for MAYBE the jetpack acceleration.
the difference between 60 and 100 is far less than the difference between 100 and 200.
60 is an unreasonable cap because it's very weak to play with.. 125 is a more than reasonable cap as the game is still very playable!
many people have posted really strong arguments for the cap including masses of screenshots showing differences, graphs of rof and all sorts of variable changes.
I can't imagine why anyone would have a problem playing on 125; seems to me that people are simply pushing for the clear and large advantage of 200fps because they feel like their status would be threatened by a more level playing field :/
I agree with Tom. Olaf, he hasn't insulted you at all apart from saying that you die a lot as flash fade, which is just true.
I upgraded my PC and I still can't get 200fps stable when the shit hits the fan with structures or simply just late game. Also people with ATI cards can't get 200fps.
It's not like the game was imbalanced in favour of aliens when you had most people running around with >200fps so I don't see why a cap being implemented harms gameplay. In fact the game was less predictable and more fun back then.
So we don't have the 'intended' ROF, who cares? If you remember, the game was balanced when 3.2 was released and very few people, if anyone had 200fps then. If the cap is 125fps, everyone has the same ROF.
Just because you can't kill skulks without 200fps any more, doesn't mean you should rail against a positive change fraggie.
not everyone is the same as you, sorry to state the obvious mighty lump, i can play with 100 fps if you fix the mouse sensitivity bug, 200 fps doesnt aim for me sorry to dissapoint you.
You wanna make it personal now Sub? What if you want the fps capped at 125, so you might actually kill a marine now and then ?
Yes 200fps makes the game smoother, easier to aim, easier to track, i dont really know why, but its just a fact, it might even have to do with my tft screen, i have no idea, i played on 100 fps for a good 10 seaons, thinking you can achieve a even playing field is ridiculous anyway, there is so much more factors to consider then just fps.
200fps doesnt make the player, it helps, just like playing on a crt instead of a tft.
lets ban crt monitors then? along with everything that helps as frg said and start playing in equal enivorments, same temperatures in the same rooms, same computers, same rates configs etc in the name of the oppressed ones by those industrial masters! call for global revolution comraders! get the red flag my comraders as our sing of this uprasing!
is this not a valid reason enough? srlsly..[/quote]
i'm just going to copy this again as no1 seems to really take it on board.
aA your arguments are boring, lets just allow people to use macros and hax because they know how to download and install them yeh? fuck trying to achieve a more level playing field.

you cant put aimbot and 200 fps on the same lvl. why dont you use 200 fps and see for youself if it rly made you an awesome aimer ; P
also lump fly down since i can already see you're flying somewhere in clouds not seeing exactly what's going on the ground since sun burns into to yout eyes.
also do that what jiriki says on practical lvl in game not on empty srv cause theory has to be proven by certain results cause all you do is just talk so far.
jeah but without gas u cant dodge fades in the hive so this a retarded tactic and u move with 390 units a bhoping skulk is over 600units per sec.
not the jp speed is higher only the acceleration is better.
This is pretty much a bad argument. I'll explain why.
Suppose you'd get 15 times the ROF with 200FPS HMG than 125FPS HMG. Would you support capping FPS then? And even if you don't support the solution (capping FPS that is), would you agree there's a problem? It'd take maybe a 100ms to kill a fade with that DPS. How about 14 times? 13 times? Until we're back in 1.2 times? The gray line between exploit and acceptable benefit in competitive game is very thin. Scripts and custom models are another example. In other words, what you don't disagree is not the principle but preference where this lines goes. Instead trying implicitly call people communists, you can still respectively disagree with people who think Jetpack acceleration should be relatively constant. You see, F1 races have limits on engines, computer calculated driving aswell to make sure you'll make most of the difference in result with your driving skills rather than your hardware.
The real question we must ask here is that whether games with 200 FPS Jetpacks are balanced and fun? In my opinion, marines have always lost more rounds than aliens. Statistics could be a lot of help. I think current 200FPS LMG is nicely balanced but I think 200FPS Jetpack gives marines too much of an edge. I don't have strong opinions either way because 200FPS Jetpacks or not, marines are still going to lose more rounds than aliens on average because marines need combination of good individual skill and commander. You can always argue that's because of bad commanders, but then again there're bad lifeforms aswell and you've to balance that with what we have. 200FPS Jetpacks have given marines possibility to make comebacks of very bad situations making games more interesting but somehow also favored "sitting on res".
The ROF @ 200 FPS was "intended" DPS technically but then again devs make mistakes and they actually didn't test this out with 200FPS servers and 200FPS clients back then. So again we need to ask whether the result is what we want NS1 to be. Just like NS2 devs might think spikes are Lerk's intended weapon, we don't have to agree on that.
On third note. There're no screens running over 120 Hz atm so I don't know how you can spot the difference. Maybe there is because how engine calculates stuff (this is complex). Personally I find 120 Hz with Vsync more smooth than 200FPS but I guess this is a personal question.
P.S. In america back in the cold war calling people communists was called McCarthyism and is intellctually considered rather stupid. And this is coming from ex-libertarian. Lots of american neo-conservatives used to call anyone not agreeing with them communists, socialists etc. This was used against people not supporting Vietnam war for example because surely if you don't support a war (against a communist state), you must be a communist!
I think Olaf should just be banned from this argument until he can grow up and actually address our points rather than using extremes to ridicule the debate. Also you need to keep the bullshit to a minimum Tom, just put across your point of view. Obviously you're going to take massive offense at this comment but hopefully you'll begin to actually argue rather than act like children.
And fraggie I wasn't making it personal, I was just addressing the only argument you appeared to have on this thread and in private conversation, against the cap. Apologies if it appeared so.
1. NS1 was not balanced at 200fps. The devs' "intended" comment is therefore irrelevant.
2. As you say multi, you cannot outfly a skulk in a single direction whether you have 1fps or 200fps. The only way to avoid the skulk is to dodge and therefore acceleration is the only relevant attribute. Therefore someone with 200fps does have an advantage over someone with 125fps in this case.
I think maybe because I play lerk with a million sensitivity it makes me fairly immune to this smoothness you all talk about - I'm just used to it. I move my screen about far more than anyone here yet I don't find 125fps a problem. So you must understand that from my point of view all I see is that you have higher DPS, which is something others cannot achieve.
Please explain your mouse sensitivity bug Olaf.
Please explain to me what you mean by other factors fraggie.
Actually I initially called 200FPS LMG or HMG DPS intended, which it is because how it was programmed. However that does not mean its balanced. I say this because some people call it an "exploit" which it in its literal sense is not (hey I got almost banned on some public for using 200FPS lmg thought for a speedhack :D). This is just a technicality and practically DPS might be causing imbalance although I'm a lot more concerned about the jetpack. And I like 200DPS LMG, I find the games post-200FPS/LMG more interesting than before 200FPS LMGs.
Btw what comes to Jetpack, it accelerates much fater in localhost mode than on a real server. Some jumps that are beyond ridiculous are not that easy to do on a real server.
