I'd like to test that during a pcw and see if it does anything. If it does nothing performance wise, I think it is good enough visibility wise, wich is something that game lacks a lot imo.
Wow finally, so now we dont have to OC our comp to 4.6ghz anymore to get 100+ fps? Imho, should be tested more into pcw, and maybe we can use it for S4?
well if you have slow gpu then it might (will) help or wanna use bigger resolution. My biggest bottleneck is server performance which also affects your fps, so called choke and server tickrate
DX9 is usually okay but DX11 is the hitch factory :D Any idea why they did that? An mistake, laziness to add new stuff or getting faster loading time and ruining the game experience :D ..
I did try the mod yesterday, and i couldnt see a "huge" improvement on a 20 player slot server, with bunch of cyst and all animation was going on.. So i tried on a 16 slot server (Could be server performance issue on the previous one)
And remained on 144fps stable, sometimes dropped to 130 in rare cases.
But for the eyes, i really liked it.. was much smoother imho, felt like the mod "Prodmod" for COD4
Not sure what files this mod is using. But my guess is that if that mod is allowed in the consistency check, you would be able to make a whitewall mod and pass consistency. Probably not a good idea to allow changes to texture files for officials.
I knew that would be a problem, but couldn't putting the mod directly ON the server fix that issue? And then using a command like for the nsl lightmod to disable/enable it for those who want?
Maybe making it into a server mod(part of NSL Mod, maybe even merge it with the lowlights command) instead of a client mod as you suggest, would be a fix. Unfortunately I don't know enough about the gamecode to awnser that. The current mod is a client mod and would just force it on everybody if you put it on the server, afaik.
Looks like my NS2 for the first 10 minutes of gameplay while my HDD is loading all the assets, lol.
i tested that mod yesteday and even on my slow cpu/pc i had like 10-30fps more in like every situation on the screen so its a huge fps gain plz install it on the servers inb4 custom map cup starts
and i might sound a bit agressive but if guys like the ns2hd guys wanna do an other "showvideo with awesome graphics" of a competive match they are at least forced to fix the performance to make the mod removed from the ensl servers
Looks nice! I would like to see this added as an official mod. It would probably be sensible to have this in separate mod(s). Apart from anything else it seems like it needs to be split due to its size.
@king_yo Oh rly? ;) Except my ns2 is laggy like shit in that state because it is actually loading the assets :P So yeah, this mod could be extremely benefitial.
@Cognito From what I gather, this has nothing to do with visuals and everything to do with performance.
You probably shouldn't get your hopes up for having a mod like this included immediately. I imagine it would take some time to do the missing programming(ON/OFF command and whatever else is needed) on the mod and no one called out that they are able to do that. The mod shouldn't be forced on everyone on the server. The streamers(and players) should still be able to have high details if they want. And I'm not even sure that making it a server side mod will neglect the possibility of people making whitewall mods. I think that even if it is a serverside mod, the files has to be ignored in the consistency check, which allows for all kinds of mods with textures. Not exactly something desirable for official games. Someone with more knowledge can hopefully correct me on that.
Lol if you think whitewalls and fluo skulks are not used allready you are delusional. The game's "security system" is a gruyère, this mod wont change it.
like king_yo said make this mod server side and give it an option "use or done use".
and like herakles said dragon already explaint how easy it is to change this files without getting noticed. So the fear of swalk is just missplaced. If someone likes to use whitewalls he does already.
The only way to stop this kind of stuff is not the consistency check but an ingame screenshot system with timestemp on it. Like it was used in other games. After the games you have to upload these files one at the start and another midgame "random" taken.
You would need a mod to take such a screenshot, but a Natural Selection 2 mod can not access the Steam Screenshot system.
(UWE is not using an ingame screenshot system, because to much work and Steam does already use it.)
The only people you would punish with not allowing such a mod, would be the people not using whitewalls or diffrent models already.
Best think would be for UWE to implement such an option ingame, but they dont fucking care about anything :D!
We enforce screenshots in AusNS2 league, drawback being that people have to micromanage their screenshots in Steam. Its a pretty clunky system. /derail
If the mod was able to be toggled it would be worth looking into. Otherwise it looks terrible from a spectator point of view.
Whoa i never explained how to circumvent the CC checks :D
But a mod like this shouldnt actually raise your FPS tbh, maybe ease a little early game (like first 30 seconds) of stuttering.. hardly something that would be worth what is required to have textures like this toggle able (since it replaces defaults atm).
Haha.. I've seen a guy make a wallhack for NS2 that passes consistency check in 30mins, I'm not ignoring that. Making exceptions in the consistency check will make it even easier to do these things. You must be delusional if you think that's a good idea ;-)
I'm pretty sure this mod would make the game alot more stable, especially on a machine like mine with old harddrives(alot less stuff to load). Those 30 seconds you speak of, are like 5-10mins on my machine and that's after the 5 minutes of precaching. Everyone are always eager to start the game at that point and I've played many games with this type of lag. I'm guessing the same applies to anyone else without SSD's.
