I think the layout is pretty good, and the room shapes and sizes seem to be good as well. But I'm still missing to play match on the map so can't make comments on how it plays yet.
I think it has a lot of potential as a comp map and I know the map testers and Jonacrab (the mapper) have put a lot of work into making it comp-viable.
It gets a +1 from me, but I'd still love to see some scrims of the EU D1 teams on it to see how it plays out for them.
Haven't played the new docking yet. But at least in last patch, departures hive was still a mess. And I didn't see any changes in the changelog about it. Locker room as a spawning position is definitely bad.
Changes were to the cafeteria to locker room area. It was also changed to random spawns for both sides with
Aliens = Locker, Gen, Departures
Marines = Terminal, Cafe, Locker
I think its more viable than previously, but I do have concerns regarding how easy it is to cut off aliens by repeatedly assaulting stability or maintenance.
The custom maps that got approved were approved on conditions that they got fixes for some problems. Yet, I haven't played descent, only walked around it. And I tend to agree with you that it should be played, we will of course not put it(or icarus/jambi) in the first week. Teams should have a little time to learn these maps.
I believe that both descent and docking should be part of the season. Descent was tested for months by competitive players and others. Once you actually know the map and dont just stare at a minimap to judge it you'll find that there are many viable options to win as both marine and alien. Docking I agree lockers should not be a spawn and dux is more than willing to make that change if people feel that is appropriate. PLEASE take the time after this weekend to play on Descent and really learn the map, I think you will be presently surprised at how much fun it is.
You guys are seriously voting on whether Descent will be included in season 2 less than 24 hours after it's release?
I'm willing to bet almost no one who voted has even played a single competitive match on the map. Seems seriously premature and it will be very disappointing not to see it included in S2 because I believe it's more than worthy of being a competitive map.
Actually Team156 had a round on both Descent and Docking last night vs AtroX. Descent played very well imo, but docking had the same issues I've seen on many pubs; namely its trivial to cutoff alien expansion, especially if they start in gen.
Vote no to descent in s2. We have five maps for the next season now, which is a decent pool. What's the rush to add another one? We certainly haven't had enough time to evaluate it (nobody's going to even think about playing it until after this weekend's qualifier is done), and after playing it on pub I have my doubts about its viability as a comp map.
I should add that the map looks amazing, and could very well be a great comp map, but until tuesday is too short notice to evaluate the map properly. Without a proper evaluation, it's not worth the risk to include it, imo.
I second the view that this poll is definitely too early, no one has had the time to evaluate this map properly yet. Could you not add descent as a map later in the season if people think it is viable and that a 6th map is needed?
I also think that the new docking is much better but they didn't change anything about stability which seems to be the problem spot on that map, easy to lockdown alien expansion and ARC 2 hives.
Well i have played this map twice .. but only on pub so ..
Although even in pub i realized that there are definitly a few spots that are .. problematic!
You can shot rts from really far away and stuff like that .. i would give this 2 weeks for ppl to play it competitively and then get some informed feedback .. cause at this point as so many ppl mentioned .. HOW WOULD ANYONE KNOW??
Also i do not trust the developers so ofc i am against including the map .. for now .. even though it raelly looks nice and fps are good too.
This isn't ensl anymore. Get swalk'd nsl. When swalk thinks something it must be good and implemented right away. The quality and playtesting doesn't matter
I see what you're saying, but give ONE example of something I've singlehandedly forced upon ensl without consulting anyone. If you think I am deciding everything myself then you are WRONG. I do have strong opinions and alot of ideas. But I always consult the admins, make polls and discussions for changes. What else can I do? Seriously?
I know that you're not the only one who thinks bad of me for reasons made out of assumptions. But I guess this kind of hate is the cost of being in the place that I am. It is sad to think about when I use most of my spare time on ENSL trying to make it a good place to compete for everyone.
I can take criticism, but what he wrote what more of an attack on me than it was criticism. I see the point though but I have not forced any changes to ensl. But that seems to be the perception that alot of people here have.
We do have several admins from the NS1 period which I am talking alot with and we know that ENSL have changed alot since the NS1 seasons, but we feel that all these changes were nessesary with the new game.
We are doing what we can to get NS2 where it deserves to be. Take the cups for an example of that. Custom map cup, trying custom maps on 6v6 to see if they are viable for season play. People are reluctant to play new maps themselves, so we figured that was a nice idea to try more maps out and maybe bring more variety to the season. It payed off, we got 2 maps with majority "Yes" votes and got in touch with the mappers to solve some problems with the maps. And then the invitational cup, working with UWE and trying to push the game towards e-sports, because we feel it deserves that.
The best thing people can do, is to point out exact things they don't like and give feedback on how to do it better. That is much better than trying to make personal attacks on the admins, as we can not use that for anything at all. But again people can't expect that we will change everything they ask for to their liking. We try to keep the majority happy.
However, back on topic. We know that this is a very short time to decide on a new map. But we figured that it would be a good idea to put it up for voting as it seems to have great potential. If people don't want to give it a try and just discard it by default then it's their loss. They will just have less variety in the season. If it does end up getting voted in, we will make sure to have descent as the last map in the map pool, which means it will first appear in season 2 week 3. That way people will have time to practice the map alot beforehand. If it does not get the majority votes to get included because people just default "no" to it, then we will just put it up for voting again between season 2 and season 3.
Well i do believe that things are talked about and stuff .. but you have to realize that these processes are not seen by the rest of the community so all i am saying .. be calmer and try not to get a heartattack ;D !
And dont take the heartattack negativ pls .. what i mean is if you get angry easy .. you will be angry alot in ENSL 8)!
To the Topic:
I think you misread what ppl say... they want more time to actually have an opinion .. so you say the map will be played s2 week3 and not sooner .. so why not extend the vote till end of week1 or week2?
I doubt that teams will prepare maps more than a week in advance so it is enough to annouce if it is in or not when the third week starts so right after the week2 games.
Its a great map, quite big, so i can see it working well with alot of different tactics, after playing a few rounds on it, it would make a good addition to the maps that we have already.
At the end of the day, someone needs to make the final decisions. If you don't agree, make your case for an alternative (I know I do) rather than complain.
Descent is a realy beautiful map but i dont think it can be play at competitive level right now. Its too early, there are a lot of bugs that must be removed, like invisible ARC in the wall near Hydroponic (or something like that in the middle of the map), too many wall jump for aliens in my opinion. And this map is realy realy BIG, maybe after few we will play it,be for the moment we shouldnt include Descent.
