I dont understand, how do ANY of the changes put into vanilla ns2 effect the comp ns2 community? IIRC comp mod should ignore any change put into vanilla because the mod provides its own balance. So unless the changes are written into comp mod they wont effect anything within ns2 comp community.
All dragon should have to do every update is fix one line of code, I THINK. So dont get mad at me if im wrong. But im pretty sure thats how it should work. And if this is true you are all LITERALLY bitching about nothing.

And round and round goes the wheel. So much drama and rumours and... sigh.
PDT is doing a excellent job. Yes I said it. They are limited in their score with what uwe wants them to do. Is uwe making the correct choices? I shall leave that up to others to debate endlessly.
But throwing all this drama in the face of the PDT who currently are doing more for the comp/mod scene then ever before is just nonsense.
A few historical notes.. In the 'old days' the game was tested vanilla. These days its also tested (at least last I asked) with the most common mods like ns2+.
Within uwe's restrictions they atleast made a beta branch for comp. Its not ideal yes, but given options are 'nothing or that' be glad that they are willing to invest time in a 'that'.
I also completely see the modders (like dragons) point of comp being to needy and dependant on mods.
We have changed so much balance in comp mod, can we really argue we truly know how the vanilla currently plays? Did you try, seriously? Often?
It always amazed me how often so many people go on complete rampages.. even if you are right (and lets leave that in the middle), if you keep cool and calm state your logic and reasons, you would be surprised how much info will flow your way.
I know many folk will shout the PDT doesnt inform us etc etc, but thats because your own screaming is drowning out what they are saying.
"All dragon should have to do every update is fix one line of code, "
But that is exact the problem, the whole comp community has to wait that dragon made this change.
While he did a really good job a whole community is addicted to one person.
If he dont want todo these changes anymore, gg. Drama incoming (you had this already)
So instead of rethinking the mod situation after the drama and find a real solution you choose to stick with same mods, played the ball to UWE (its there fault) and now you have the same situation again.
Its kinda a joke that a whole communty cant exist without the work of one person.
Btw. did dragon got any donations from anyone here, im only interested.
And my copy folder "solution" is a workaround to give time to rethink.
But it looks like the rats are leaving the sinking ship.

Exactly.. I was kinda annoyed with dragon at first also, but then I talked to him with that mod drama a while back.
And its true, we are to mod dependant. We basicly force him to work on it. I totally see his point.

Im not saying dragon should HAVE to change the line, its his life he can do what he wants.
All im trying to point out is everyone is blaming uwe for ruining their balance. But they arent...because they have compmod. compmod has been fixed since friday and guess what there was no power surge, crazy.
I dont see dota csgo league overwatch with its own community balance, hell the meta for dota changes every 4 months because they bring in huge balance changes, and everytime the community is happy they brought the changes
@dePara
Well people can still join gathers and play. Don't play blame competitive players if they don't want to. Again, stop accusing people if the only thing they do is to move on somewhere else. If people thinks vanilla game is not suitable for 6v6 high level gamepaly that's their right.
I see no drama currently, just some people trolling and 4 guys posting on a topic. Just build a scene with the people who agree with you and wants to play this build, join the gathers togetherand play !
@Tico
Why would you compare a game where dev makes update for the comp scene and a game where changes are made for newcomers. And you forgot that the game was left free of any big balance changes for almost 3 years (im thinking about build 250). If your are the opposite target audience of a build and if you where having your little bit of fun on a relatively old niche game it's natural to not feel happy about it.

For once I agree with DePara... I don't think I ever expected to say that in this lifetime...
Yes the 'fix' for this patch was 1 line of code, but that just gets comp mod 'functioning' again. There are balance changes leaking over from vanilla which are impacting comp play, and changes in comp mod getting broken that are not getting fixed. Power surge and the exo changes and whatever else has been done (I don't follow or have NS2 installed anymore).
Even if it was 1 line of code, I still don't have the time to really do testing and/or coding to actually make that happen... If someone sends me a pull request with the fixes I can certainly make a bit of time to publish that, but that takes 5 minutes at best and is really just 2 clicks and some waiting for me.
All of that drama back then was partly to bring attention to THIS EXACT issue which I knew would happen if UWE actually started doing 'rapid iteration', especially on game play. CompMod cant really be coded in a way which wont get impacted, it just touches too many game play elements... I don't expect this will be an issue with the NSL mod, but it certainly could happen.
I still try to read messages when I can and respond, but with my current projects for work I just cant dedicate time to NS2 anymore.
As an FYI, I have never received any donations for anything I've done for NS2, and I have turned down that option a couple of times previously...
There are people in the community that would be more than happy to help keep the mod updated.
Is this not possible?
I see you've said people can submit requests, I'm just wondering why this isn't being explored.
[edit] read dragon's UWE post, I guess there isn't actually people in the community that would be happy to help.
